Carrier cites recent reports validating safety of aircraft >>

JetBlue will end capacity limits on its aircraft beginning Jan. 8. The carrier had limited onboard capacity to 70% from Oct. 15 through Dec. 1 and will increase that to 85% from Dec. 2 through Jan. 7. The airline has not blocked middle or adjacent seats since Oct. 15. Joanna Geraghty, president and COO, said in a blog post that the changes were made in response to a growing number of studies from respected researchers that validate the safety of the aircraft cabin. She said studies like a recent report from Harvard confirm that the layers of protection now in place make the plane as safe as or substantially safer than other, more common settings, like grocery shopping or indoor dining. Along with this change, JetBlue is offering additional flexibility on cancellations and changes. Customers who booked on or before Nov. 13 for travel on Jan. 8 or later are eligible for a full refund to their original form of payment if requested by Nov. 27.
