JetBlue has applied to fly from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Guayaquil, Ecuador beginning Dec. 5. It would be the first route to use the new 200-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft. The carrier currently operates a daily Fort Lauderdale - Guayaquil route on an Airbus A320. On the JFK route, JetBlue will be competing against Eastern Airlines – formerly known as Dynamic Airways – which is set to begin New York-Guayaquil service on May 1; and with LATAM Ecuador’s existing route, which uses a Boeing 767-300. Andrea Lusso, JetBlue’s director of route planning, said the introduction of the A321neo to the fleet opens a world of new possibilities for the network, “building out our focus cities, and offering new and unique nonstop routes to our customers.”
