Generator, a European hotel company, has purchased Freehand Hotels, which has four properties in the US, in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami. The $400 million deal includes all food and beverage outlets.
The purchase, according to an announcement, will present “valuable opportunities” to strengthen Generator’s presence in North America. Generator already has a hotel in Miami and will soon have one in Washington, D.C. There are no immediate plans to change Freehand’s operations. Freehand, said the announcement, is similar to Generator in combining the social culture of a hostel with private rooms and suites, high-quality food and beverage and a community-driven atmosphere. The Washington D.C. Generator will open next year in the heart of the city between Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle.
