The ban on electronic devices on planes has been lifted on flights to the US from Ataturk Airport in Istanbul and Dubai International Airports, according to statements from Turkish Airlines and Emirates. Abu Dhabi was the first airport to have the ban lifted after it introduced more rigorous screening procedures. The Transportation Security Administration has asked all carriers and airports with flights to the US to increase the use of canine screening, install devices to detect trace amounts of explosives and start interviewing passengers, if they are not doing so already. The original ban had applied to passenger cabins of flights from eight predominantly Muslim countries and was introduced after intelligence reports suggested that terrorists were developing explosives that could be hidden in the batteries of these devices.
