Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, has written an open letter to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) asking the agency to consider cutting down its recommended isolation period for vaccinated patients who catch COVID-19. Right now, the CDC recommends a stretch of at least 10 days after a person’s symptoms first begin. Bastian asked the agency to cut that down to five. Bastian wrote that at Delta over 90% of the workforce is fully vaccinated, and those rates are increasing daily. The letter said that the airline’s employees represent an essential workforce to enable Americans who need to travel domestically and internationally. With the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, said the letter, “the 10-day isolation for those who are fully vaccinated may significantly impact our workforce and operations,“ Similar to health care, police, fire and public transportation workforces, said the letter, “the Omicron surge may exacerbate shortages and create significant disruptions.”
