Small plastic cosmetic bottles will be banned in California hotels under a new law set to take effect in 2023. It will apply to hotels with more than 50 rooms in 2023 and all hotels in 2024. Violators could be fined $500 for a first offense and $2,000 for subsequent violations. The law follows similar actions by major hotel chains. Marriott International has said it plans to stop using small plastic bottles in its hotel rooms by December 2020. IHG, which owns Holiday Inn, Kimpton and other brands, said it will eliminate about 200 million small bottles by 2021. The legislation was also backed by the California Hotel and Lodging Association.
