Air New Zealand customers  with a flight credit as of Sept. 30, 2022, will now have  until Jan. 31, 2024, to take that flight. For most customers, according to the carrier, that is an extension of another 12 months. Leanne Geraghty, chief customer and sales officer, said this will be good news for about 500,000 customers who currently hold a credit with the airline. A significant portion of credit balances, she said, were due to expire in January 2023,  but given New Zealand’s border has only fully reopened in the last couple of months, “we think it's the right thing to do to extend the expiration of credits, given customers haven't had many opportunities to use them.’  By the end of October, said Geraghty, the airline will have 29 gateways up and running, including new service to New York; and over the New Zealand summer, capacity will be back at 80% of pre-Covid international capacity. Any new credits issued beginning Oct. 1 will have a 12-month expiration date to book new flights and a further 12 months to travel.
