TravelClick study shows channel is still crucial to lodging business

This will be a record year for GDS hotel bookings, according to a new study from TravelClick, a hotel data company, and Phoenix Marketing International, a market research firm. Based on a survey of 900 travel agents in 52 countries, the study forecasts a record 68 million GDS hotel reservations this year – an increase of over two million bookings against 2016. John Hach, senior industry analyst for TravelClick, said the data shows that agents continue to rely on GDS for conducting hotel research and booking reservations. He added that the study is also consistent with business intelligence data showing that GDS hotel bookings and average daily rates (ADRs) that are generated through travel agents are on the rise. Hach said, “All of this further proves that hoteliers have ample opportunity to generate incremental revenue and maximize revenue per available room (RevPAR) through the GDS.”
