U.S. Travel Association April report shows expansion for fourth consecutive month – first time since 2015

Domestic business travel grew in April for a fourth consecutive month – the first four-month win streak for that segment since January-April 2015, according to the U.S. Travel Association’s latest Travel Trends Index (TTI). According to the report, the industry has expanded for 100 straight months, but the business travel growth was deemed “the most noteworthy component” by U.S. Travel. David Huether, senior vice president for U.S. Travel, said that while travel overall is relatively healthy, particularly domestic business travel, “the US travel industry continues to register concern over a declining share of the global travel market.” He said that business confidence was soft earlier in the economic recovery, “but now we're seeing a resurgence that is attributable in part to the recent tax cuts and a more favorable regulatory environment." But U.S. Travel economists note that the growth of international inbound travel to the US is being outstripped by the growth of long-haul travel globally.
